Four months sprint to design the new Telekom Romania website

Story and lessons from the design of Telekom Romania Website.

Telekom Homepage UX Design

The story starts in May when we were chosen to design the website, a pillar in the Telekom Romania online strategy. Our experience in designing the Cosmote website recommended us as a digital agency that delivers quality and on time design. Now that the site is live, we can take a small break and share with you the great news and some things that helped us in the process.

We redesigned the Cosmote website and improved its UX. This project was a good starting point and inspiration for Telekom.


To design a website for a big company with so many end-users is not an easy feat. We knew it was a hard project and not for the feint hearted. Still, if you have the right people, with a good mentality, the work unfolds easily with not so many bumps in the road.

Telekom E-commerce UX Design
E-commerce is a big part of Telekom. Creating an engaging user experience and removing obstacles from the user flow was a must.

We saw billboards, ads on the TV and Magenta everywhere in the country. We knew it was something BIG. Instead of scaring us, we took it as a challenge and pushed ourselves even more. Celebrating tiny victories, thinking about the end goal and the sense of being part of something bigger made us enjoy the responsibility and the opportunity.

Balancing Perfection with Deadlines

One of our favorite quotes is: “Everything will be alright in the end. If it’s not alright, then it’s not the end”. We are perfectionists of our trade and pixel perfection is not something to mock in our company. When you combine this with deadlines you might not get a very good mix. Instead of having to cut corners we preferred to allocate more resources and time on the project to get the job done.

One of the challenges was to merge in one site all the services that the company provided (TV, Internet, Landline, mobile, telephone, tablet and device shop).

Still when it comes to perfection we always know that there are things vital to have and things nice to have. Knowing what and when to prioritize is something that you develop in time. Luckily we have the experience and intuition to identify them.

User Experience

It’s easy to throw content at a site and hope that it will stick. It takes a little bit more if you want for your visitors to have an amazing user experience.

Telekom Reincarcare Telefon UX Design
A lot of assumptions were challenged and the truth remained. All you need to recharge a Prepaid SIM Card is an account, a phone number, money and a button. No extra gimmicks.

We are UX designers and we integrated user experience consultancy and problem solving skills in the design process. Therefore we spent a lot of time asking questions like:

1. Is the user flow easy to understand?
2. What’s the next step that the user will take?
3. Can we show this in a simpler way?
4. Does the user have enough information to take a decision?
…and many many more.

Trusting your partner

Trust is something important in every relationship, personal or professional. You have to trust the decisions the other party makes and the information it provides.

Telekom offered us the right amount of information and we had to transform it in a working design. They trusted us with fixing up the details and filling the gaps because the time was short. We trusted them with the information they provided. We knew that, almost at any hour, if we needed something, they would manage to find a way. Trusting the skill and experience of each party saved us a lot of time and irrelevant discussions.

A mobile or a tablet should not be a barrier in your experience. This is why the site is responsive and works on both devices.

In the end we can say it was an amazing experience and we are happy that we could deliver quality and on time design. These words are only the tip of the whole process that took place in the last months. There is so much to share, but for now we will let our work speak for itself.
