Grapefruit turns 20 years

Independent digital agency Grapefruit was founded on the 13th of November 1999 and established itself as a pioneer in the Romanian digital industry. Fast forward 20 years, we have seen substantial growth, as our business matured, and we have delivered an impressive portfolio of services. We are proud of our team, where each and every one of us is hungry for innovation and delivering our customers amazing results. Hard work and passion for digital are core ingredients for our success recipe.

We started as a branding and digital agency when the impact, needs, interests, and budgets of most businesses were far from being invested in these directions. In time, the digital market expanded, objectives got bolder and at that point, we had to make a decision: are we going to change and evolve or are we going to stand still and become invisible? We went with the first option. In time, we adapted our structure and services constantly, in order to grow at the same pace as our clients.

From a small start-up hiring a team of 3, Grapefruit grew to a 35 strong team, seeking new digital challenges, always keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in order to provide clients with the best solutions.

We were fast, flexible and decisive in our actions. At the same time, our independence came with a lot of hard work, as we have to prove our customers that they made the right decision, from the first meeting, all the way through to project completion. Change agility has been the key to our success, and without it, we couldn’t have performed this well or we couldn’t have established long-lasting partnerships with our clients. The moment we focused solely on user experience and development, was the turning point in establishing ourselves as pioneers and truly unique in the Romanian digital landscape market. The development department is our main growth engine and the areas we are exploring right now are: cross-platform mobile development, progressive web apps, chatbots, microservices, React Native, Node.js and so on.

Because people are the essence of Grapefruit, we keep investing in our culture, one of our business’s main pillars. We have a team of bold, passionate people who are always up-to-date with the latest digital trends and believe that inspiration comes from studying and having a relaxing work-environment. We’ve developed new skills in order to anticipate and satisfy our customers’ needs, assuring excellent results. That’s how Grapefruit ended up as an agency with a long-term vision. 

In order to create a new generation of leaders, we have created the Outgrow Yourself Program. The main purpose is to create new leadership opportunities for our employees and encourage our current leaders to acquire new skills and pursue new opportunities within the company.

For 2019, we set a target of 1.250.000 euros, considering that last year we managed to exceed our turnover of 1.000.000 euros, and for this year we are looking for sustainable growth. 

In the first 8 months of this year, we have reached 750.000 euro revenue, representing about 60% of our target. Investing in our culture and in developing new ways of working, have been the main pillars of our business strategy. We strongly feel that by hiring the right people, we can add more value to our clients, which in turn, translates into stronger relationships with our strategic clients. 

We are proud to work with: Nestlé, Alpha Bank, Garanti Bank, CEZ, Dacia, Renault, Philip Morris, Globalworth, Expur, RCI Finance, Maggi, Nestlé Baby, E-distribution and others. 

Through Picard, our own product, we are trying to validate our business model and the results that this could bring to our clients. At the end of the year, we will evaluate if we are heading in the right direction, or if we need re-pivot
