Iaşi, the 25th of October 2005— The first step in building a place brand for Iaşi has been taken on Tuesday, the 25th of October 2005, in a public discussion initiated by Grapefruit and Iaşi Prefecture.
Representatives of the City Hall, the Local and District Council, representatives of the major companies from Iaşi, cultural personalities, artists and professors, non-profit institutions and organizations, the local written and audio-visual press took part in the discussion along with the organizers. Following a brief introduction to branding and a presentation of the particular features of place branding, the participants debated upon the actual work process, the potential development courses of the Iaşi brand and on the resources needed for such a project in the long term.
„Iaşi has to state its presence and strong points much more assertively and coherently than it has done so far. This is a task which concerns all the people who live here, regardless of their activity area or their political views. United we stand.”, Mr. Radu Prisăcaru, the Iaşi district’s prefect, said at the end of the event.
The process will be continued by creating a formal, non-profit association, made up of the people and institutions that are willing and able to participate in the place branding effort, in order to organize, coordinate and finance the project in the long term.
Grapefruit (www.grapefruit.ro) is a consultancy for branding and interactive design based in Iaşi, Romania. Its client roster includes companies like Connex, Dacia, UPS, HP, Gândul, Eli Lilly, British Council, and the International Corporate and Brand Identity Centre.
