Siveco
AEL interface design
The customer
SIVECO Romania was set up in 1991 and is currently one of the biggest providers of ERP, eLearning, eHealth, eBusiness, and eGovernment solutions, as well as fully customised software projects, in the country. SIVECO Romania is an important member of the international group SIVECO, and has more than 1,800 customers in over 35 countries.
The challenge
The Romanian Ministry of Education and Culture chose SIVECO Romania to develop an integrated educational system that would assist teachers and students alike in their effort to achieve more during the learning process. Moreover, the creation of a robust, intuitive and user-friendly interface was among the main requirements of the 'Asistent Educaţional pentru Şcoli şi Licee (AEL)' - Virtual College Educational Assistant - project.
The solution
Following a thorough comparative assessment of the functionalities offered by the AEL system and of the diverse user needs, Grapefruit designed a concept for an interface which was ideally adapted to the intuitive approaches that the users follow in order to perform their tasks. The codes and conventions used in the design and implementation of the graphical user interface built on the users' basic knowledge about computers, regardless of their level of proficiency in operating them. At the same time, the simple and clear navigational and functional interface elements lent the product the necessary flexibility and scalability features that had been identified by the customer and end-users as being the main product performance criteria.
